My Qualifications
I read Biology at university but quit to pursue a career in music. My reputation as a drum teacher, and background studying science, led to me being headhunted to work in scientific research into the benefits of drumming, with the Clem Burke Drumming Project. I still had a great passion for science, so I decided to finish my degree with the Open University, graduating with honours in Natural Sciences in 2016. I'm a dyslexic and also experience visual stress, so I'm particularly motivated to help others follow in my footsteps by pursuing their interests in science while overcoming the obstacles which our educational system puts in their paths.
About me
I love to coach and motivate people in science and drumming! Who says you can't excel in multiple fields? I'm fortunate to have been able to combine both disciplines in my career, teaching drums for scientific research. I also love coaching English as a second language, through acquisition, and I'm inspired by Stephen Krashen and Michel Thomas. I'm particularly keen to reach out to students who are bright but struggle to learn in a conventional way with fusty, old-fashioned style teachers who can't relate to neurally diverse pupils. That's because I was one of those pupils, I'm dyslexic myself, and it was only when I learned how to accept and overcome my difficulties that I was really able to spread my wings.
