I consider myself to be a hard worker with a solid work ethic who exerts optimal effort to ensure all tasks given to me are completed on time and to the highest standards. As a graduate of the English Department at the University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka, who has specialized in English, I am competent to work in a competitive, challenging and fast-paced environment. I am flexible in adapting to different working environments and coping with diverse personalities. As a result of the degree programme that I followed and the work experience that I received by working as an English teacher at Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha, an Instructor in English in the English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) at the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and at the Faculty of Arts in the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and also by working as a Lecturer in English at Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE) Sri Lanka, I am equipped with the capabilities of creating inspirational Lesson Plans to enable the students to grasp the subject matter much more enthusiastically, encouraging students to critical thinking and preparing the classroom environment suitable for much more efficient student-centered learning. I have experience in handling students with multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds and personalities.

My experience as a teacher for 5 years in Qatar expanded my level of understanding, flexibility and adaptability in working with diverse students. My exposure to drama and theatre always made me innovate creative activities to get the students engaged in the lessons actively. The students whom I taught not only learned the subject-specific content, but they also enjoyed learning the lessons due to these creative and novel methods. Being a certified Qatar Debate Judge, I encouraged my students to build up arguments and think critically. I was an active member of the Qatar Debate Club in the school. I trained the students to be leaders in different cultural and school events while coordinating them. Thus, I am keen to perform a variety of tasks to gain experience to advance my career as well as to achieve organizational goals. Teaching and working with children and guiding them to be good human beings have always been my passions in life.

I strongly believe that the best teacher is a very good listener and someone who can understand the thoughts, feelings and attitudes of the students according to their age groups and cultures. One of the significant abilities I have as a teacher is the inspiration and motivation, I instilled in the slow-learning students in my classes. Over the last seven years, the performance of the slow-learning students in every class that I taught improved considerably. I am interested in working as an educator in the UK as the education system in this country is highly reputable all over the world. With the knowledge I am invested in the master’s of Education programme at Nottingham Trent University, my ultimate goal is to gain experience as a committed educator in the UK educational system.
