My Qualifications
I have worked in schools for over 20 years as a maths teacher, Head of Mathematics, Head of Sixth Form and as an Assistant Headteacher. I have also tutored privately for the past 8 years across the age and ability range but particularly working with students studying for GCSE, iGCSE & A-level qualifications.
About me
I am an experienced maths teacher and my main belief is in teaching for understanding and building confidence i.e. I want to be clear that you know what you are doing rather than me showing you how to do something and assuming that this is enough (it never is and practice will lead to progress). Questioning has always been raised as one of my strengths and I'm always keen to find out how you know something or what ideas led you to a solution as this is a great place to identify both strengths and misconceptions. I want you to bring your concerns and suggestions of areas to improve to lessons and also to be prepared to have a go and also to be prepared to be wrong - if you get everything right all of the time it suggests the work is too easy and you aren't learning anything!
